Forcing it to USB2 (by simply using a USB extension cable) drops it to under 40MB/s read/write (don't use an extension cable!). I got 130MB/s on my Macbook Air read/write. Overall, the Seagate Backup Plus 2 TB Desktop drive is a GOOD drive, not great. What you will see with this external drive is that it will read / write as fast as any SATA II hard drive. In reality, one can expect 2-4x faster in most circumstances. They brag that USB 3.0 is 10X faster than USB 2.0. Overall, USB 3.0 speeds are a vast improvement over USB 2.0, and this drive really shows it’s stuff with USB 3.0. Somehow, using Linux as the OS for Acronis, USB 3.0 really shines.
